Spend less time looking at your maps, and more time looking for your trophy!

I had a chance to spend some time with Eric and the crew from HuntingGPSmaps.com at the Bitterroot Valley Sportsman’s Expo yesterday. I’ve heard alot about these guys in the last year from hunting friends that have been very impressed with the results they are achieving in the backcountry by using the HuntingGPSmaps program. The guys I talk to are finding more critters, and in a much quicker way than they’ve ever been able to accomplish in the past. They are also obtaining more private land access through their use of HuntingGPSmaps. We’ll have more coming from these guys in the days ahead as we lead up to hunting season, but for now, check out the info below and visit their website for more great info on this exciting product.

HuntingGPSmaps.com offers a full line of custom GPS maps for Garmin GPS units. You probably know them from their most popular Public Land Topo maps for your GPS (BLM4GPS), but check the Free maps they offer by browsing maps available in your State. Their main focus has been Western States Hunting Maps, but due to the demand for their products they are now offering their maps further East.

Check out their website for more information, tutorials on the products, as well as a video that will tell you more about this incredible tool for big game hunters at:  http://huntinggpsmaps.com

Primetime Mister

Monday, July 25th, 2011

Hunter’s Specialties new Primetime Pure Estrus Mister dispenses scent as an airborne mist to attract deer to your stand. The aerosol spray eliminates the spills and waste that can be associated with liquid scents, while providing a wider range of coverage.

The Primetime Pure Doe Estrus Mister comes with an aerosol can of Premium Doe Estrus scent. The battery operated, electronically timed mister can easily be adjusted to spray doe estrus scent at night, during the day, or both. Simply turn the dial to one of five frequency settings that are available for 5, 10, 15, 20, or 25 minute intervals.
PrimeTime Pure Premium Doe Estrus spray contains natural whitetail doe-in-heat urine collected during the peak 24-36 hour breeding period. When used in the Mister on the 24-hour/20 minute setting a can will typically last 14 days, or 1,000 sprays. The airborne scent will travel on even the slightest air currents to attract bucks to your stand location. Refill cans are also readily available.

The unit operates on AA batteries and comes in a padded case with a strap to hang it from a branch or bow hanger. The Primetime Doe Estrus Mister sells for a suggested retail price of $23.99. Refills of the Premium Doe Estrus aerosol are $7.99.

Nebraska Bowfishing

Thursday, July 21st, 2011

Despite the nasty weather last week and lightning striking all around the lake, we managed to sling a few late-night arrows on carp and gar in Nebraska. Bowfishing guru, Matt Green, helped teach bowfishing sessions at our bowhunter camp during the day, then took a few of us staffers out for some action once the kids were in their cabins. A big thanks to Matt for all his help.

NE Youth Bowhunter Camp

Monday, July 18th, 2011

We just wrapped up the 2011 Heartland Youth Bowhunter Camp in Nebraska. It was without a doubt one of our best camps yet! We had 47 boys and girls attend this year’s camp, as well as another 50 kids come out to shoot with us for the one-day day camp. We had a great group of young men and women from all across the state. Some were first-time shooters…others had a few years under their belt…either way, they all had a ton of fun!  The kids came a long way in developing their archery and bowhunting skills, as well as drawing closer to the Lord throughout their week of camp.

A big thanks to all the guys (and gals) that helped out with this year’s camp. We’re already looking forward to next year!
