Bohning Bark Shark

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

Bohning has answered the call for a better way to stash your quiver when you opt for treestand hunting with your quiver off your bow. No more dangling quivers from treelimbs or screw-in hooks. The Bark Shark securely holds your quiver in place so you can focus on the shot.

The Bark Shark is no lightweight. The portable quiver mount weighs less than three ounces but holds up to 20 pounds. The Bark Shark attaches to tree or limb without screws. It works with most standard quiver mounting brackets and even has a built in broadhead wrench.

First Days in South Africa

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

Chris and Kimberly-Mac’s first few days in South Africa were somewhat overwhelming as they took in the sights and sounds of one of the world’s greatest destinations for bowhunters.

Kim was the first to strike with a Waterbuck shot at 18 yards on Day 2. She found her prize dead just 50 yards from the blind. On Day 4 Kim shot a nice Warthog at 23 yards. The hog went 150 yards before taking a nap. On Day 5 Kim shot an Impala at 18 yards and it tipped over in sight after a short 25 yard run. She also shot a Duiker at 22 yards with a 40 yard recovery on the same morning.

After watching Kim do all her damage, Chris was finally ready to sling a few arrows of his own. He shot a monster Warthog at 13 yards with his Centaur longbow. The recovery effort was just 75 yards.

Chris and Kim were hunting with Choranga Safaris. Check out the bowhunting opportunities at Choranga by visiting their website at http://chorongasafaris.com

South Africa Success

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

Team members, Chris and Kimberly-Mac Blaskowski, just returned home from their first bowhunting trip to South Africa. They hunted with Evan and Mia Sloan of Choronga Safaris. http://chorongasafaris.com

It was a “huntingmoon” of sorts for the newlyweds and they wasted little time in unloading their quivers at the plethora of plains game in South Africa.
Chris and Kim shared their daily journal of their hunts and we’ll be spotlighting some of the exciting moments of their adventure here at the blog over the next few days.
Congrats on your marriage Chris and Kim!…and congrats on all the critters slayed in South Africa!

Chris and Kim highly recommend Choranga Safaris and the work of Evan and Mia for anyone looking for an unforgettable bowhunting adventure. For more on Evan and Mia’s outfit check out http://chorongasafaris.com

Bro’s Bear

Monday, June 6th, 2011

After having several shooter bears show up on the trail camera this past week at my ID bait site, it was finally my time to climb into the Double Bull blind to try and stick a good bear. After a lousy spring bear season last year, I was due!
It was a very quiet evening and I was beginning to think my bears had moved on to find other bait sites.  Especially since mine had run dry while I was out of town the past week. However, when a sound just outside my blind window stirred me from dozin’ off, I looked and saw a bear just four steps away from my blind, slippin’ in from the left side. My heart did a back flip as things started happening quick! I didn’t dare try to flip the camera on with the bear so close. But when he eased out to 10 yards and seemed occupied with something other than my blind, I got the camera rolling. The bear went straight for the bait barrel, but when he heard a slight shuffle from me as I prepared for the shot, he took off. But as quick as he left he began to lumber back down the hill towards my set up. Things got intense when he walked past the bait barrel and kept coming toward my blind. At 8 yards he stepped up on a log and starred straight into my blind window! He knew I was there….and he didn’t seem to care. It was the most intense encounter I’ve had with a critter yet! He opted to go back to the barrel for grub instead of investigating my blind any further. Playtime was over…it was time to kill the bear. I planned to shoot him at the next available opportunity when he settled back at the bait. When his body was stretched out quartering slightly away, I made the shot. The bear ripped up the hill on his death run. In a matter of seconds I heard him begin to roll back down the hill. And with one final crash things went silent. It was game over.
When I recovered the bear I realized I had killed a good’un. He was a beautiful beast! With a choco-black cape and big melon head, I was stoked with my Idaho trophy black bear.

Gear for this hunt:
Mathews Z7, Trophy Taker Smack Down Rest, Black Gold Ascent Sight, TightSpot Quiver, Trophy Taker Shuttle T-Lock Broadheads, Easton Axis Arrows, Primos Double Bull Blind, Badlands Sacrifice Pack.

Watch for this hunt coming soon to RBTV.

Heath’s Bear

Friday, June 3rd, 2011

RBTV team member, Heath Helgert, scored on a really big Idaho black bear this past weekend. The bear showed up a number of times at this same site in the 2010 spring season, so Heath had this bear on the hitlist when he went in to sit the stand.
In recent week’s Heath has fought through severe back problems and physical illness…all for the love of the game.

When the bear started to become a regular customer at the bait site, Heath went in to make his move. And the results were textbook.

Heath’s gear included: Mathews Z7 Xtreme, Black Gold Ascent Sight, Trophy Taker Rest, TightSpot Quiver, and Simmons Broadhead.
Congrats to Heath on a awesome Idaho black bear!

Watch for the video of Heath’s hunt coming soon to RBTV.

Inside Look at Black Gold Coming Soon!

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

Over two decades ago Black Gold was born with the idea that you can build a rock solid bow sight, and keep it affordable. While at the same time, doing it right here in the United States and backing that product with a lifetime warranty.  Of all the sight companies that were in the industry when Mike Ellig started Black Gold decades ago, there is only one other company still on the radar today.  And the original owner of that company sold out years ago.  Mike is still in it because he believes in what they have going at Black Gold.

With the Photochromatic shells, the custom sight shop, lifetime warranty, and quality made-in-the-USA products, this is a company we had to give a closer look.

Watch for Branden VanDyken’s interview with Mike Ellig and an Inside Look at Black Gold coming soon!
