Untangle Your Gear With S4Gear’s SideWinder EVO

Sunday, February 20th, 2011

Ever get tired of tangled binocular and rangefinder straps when you’re trying to grab one or the other in the heat of the hunt? That drives me nuts! Well, the crew at S4Gear may have the perfect solution! Check it out…

Built on the overwhelming success of the SideWinder from the leaders in tactical tether systems, S4Gear introduces the SideWinder EVO. The next generation of retractable gear deployment systems, the SideWinder EVO is the outdoor enthusiast’s solution to dropped, lost or hard to access gear no matter what terrain is being tackled.

The SideWinder EVO can be attached to a pack or waist belt with a patent pending rotating clip assembly. With 8 different mounting positions possible, the rotation can be solidly locked down so there is no opportunity for unwanted movement or game spooking noise, while still allowing the device to be positioned for the ultimate quick draw, regardless of where it is mounted.

Swift and silent removal of electronic devices is made easy with the patent pending quick detach technology allowing instant one-handed removal of electronic devices from the SideWinder EVO, leaving only a low profile pad attached.

The SideWinder EVO is designed for use with laser rangefinders, GPS units, 2-way radios, game calls, dog-training systems and more. Retail categories include hunting, hiking, biking, cycling, golfing, boating, geo caching among others. Aftermarket accessories include custom fit rangefinder sleeves made to attach popular rangefinders from Leupold, Nikon and Bushnell to the SideWinder EVO without the need for the adhesive tether pad as well as others. For more information on the SideWinder EVO visit http://s4gear.com

“Montana will kill wolves that prey on elk”

Sunday, February 20th, 2011

Governor Brian Schweitzer has ordered gray wolf packs to be culled in the Bitterroot Valley to protect the dwindling elk population there, which could be in direct defiance of the federal Endangered Species Act.
In addition, he has directed Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks to respond to any livestock depredation throughout Montana by removing whole packs that kill livestock, and told game wardens not to investigate nor cite anyone in the northern tier of the state who kill or harass a wolf attacking their livestock.

In a letter to Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar, Schweitzer said he was “profoundly frustrated by the lack of any actual results that recognize Montana’s rights and responsibilities to manage its wildlife.”

“Montana has for years done everything that has been asked: adopting a model wolf management plan; enacting enabling legislation; and adopting the necessary implementing rules,” Schweitzer wrote. “Our exemplary efforts have been ignored. I cannot continue to ignore the crying need for workable wolf management while Montana waits, and waits, and waits.
“Therefore, I am now going to take additional necessary steps to protect the interests of Montana’s livestock producers and hunters to the extent that I can within my authorities as governor.”

Schweitzer told the Independent Record that it wasn’t any particular incident that prompted his decision; instead, it was the inactivity by Salazar’s department. He added that he doesn’t believe he’s defying federal protections for wolves under the Endangered Species Act.

“There’s been a lot of motion masquerading as action in Washington, D.C., and we simply need to take action in Montana,” he said. “We are doing things within the laws, according to our attorneys.”

Finally Home

Friday, February 18th, 2011

I recently got word that one of the coolest kids I’ve met while on the road doing seminars finally went home to be with the Lord after a long battle with brain cancer. I met and ate dinner with Josh Gehmen and his dad at a sportsmen’s banquet I did last year in Boyertown, PA. Josh’s battle with cancer ended last month as he stepped in to heaven. While Josh’s pain and suffering is finally over, his family’s pain and heartache continues on. Please keep the Gehman family in your prayers in the days ahead.

New Gear From Primos

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

I was pleased to see some great new gear, specifically for ground blind hunters, unleashed this year from our friends at Primos. The Primos crew answered the call for some practical tools that easily make the ground blind hunter’s life much easier.
One, is their new Brush Lock. Brush Lock is a nest for sticks, grass, and brush. It keeps brush in place all hunting season. Brush Lock is the quickest, easiest, and most effective way to brush in ANY ground blind roof profile. Breaking up the roof outline is a must when it comes to hunting deer, so this product will no doubt be golden when it comes time brush in our blinds again this fall.
Another new product for ground pounders is the Blind Stabilizer. The Blind Stabilizer is a roof support pole that guarantees your blind will be standing as long as you want it to be. Roof support prevents collapsing from snow, ice, and added brush-in materials applied to top of the blind.

And whether you’re looking for something for off-season scouting, or thru-the-season updates on what’s hangin’ around your stand locations, the new Super Model scouting camera will be hard to beat. The Super Model is tiny, so you can easily pack a number of these units into the deer woods, or backcountry elk wallows. Features of the Super Model include: Super Small Size, ‘Best in Class’ Image Quality, Converts to Handheld Photo Viewer in the field, Year Long Battery-Life, Captures Photos & Video, Fast 0.3 Trigger Speed, 7.0 Mega Pixel, 50 Ft Extended Night Range

Check out these great products, as well as the complete line of Primos products and calls at http://primos.com

Shed Hunting

Monday, February 14th, 2011

It seems like it’s been feast or famine so far this year with picking up shed antlers. Some of the guys have reported picking up 30-50 already while others can’t buy a bone. One of the local wildlife biologist reported an early drop here in western MT with some 70 percent of the whitetail bucks losing their antlers in January. Boo Bradford has already established an impressive pile of bone and Hunter grabbed a couple nice sheds over the weekend. I’m still working on breakin’ in my bone dog. Her first run last week wasn’t too impressive.  She nearly stepped on a small forky drop before my son finally picked up the shed and threw it to the pup! Keep us posted on what you’re finding out there. We’d love to hear your stories and see the pix.
