Weekend of Success

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

This past weekend was a busy one for the Reality Bowhunting crew with elk, antelope, and deer hunts in the works around the country. Our Wyoming bowhunting brother, Mark Pooler, scored on a great battle-worn bull in the beautiful Snowie Mountains of WY. The bull put on quite a show for Mark as he bugled his way to within 20 yards of Mark before he got the shaft. The bull only made it 75 yards after the shot before piling up…just 1.5 miles from the truck! Congrats to Mark on a great WY bull.

Heath Helgert got to break in his virgin Centaur longbow over the weekend when he put a sneak on a MT antelope. Heath slipped to within longbow range and unleashed an arrow tipped with a 125 Simmons Shark head…and the damage was done….his quest for his first traditional killed critter was finally reality.

Several whitetail bucks got a free pass from me on the opening morning of the TN bowseason this past Saturday. But when a slick showed up under my stand that afternoon, I had to let one fly. Whitey does on opening day have become something that I have a hard time passing up…especially when the bucks play hardball.

We also want to say a big congrats to one of our Youth Bowhunter Camp (YBC) campers, Derek Sawyer on his first bow-killed buck recently taken in Idaho. Derek is a fine young man…I’m very proud of him…and I’m anxious to see what the Lord will do in and through him in the days to come. Keep it up Derek!

HuntDawg Tags His Bull

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

RBTV team member, Hunter “HuntDawg” Andrews, got to punch his MT elk tag this past weekend after a nasty 10 days in the backcountry. “It was a tough hunt with 45 mph winds and freezing rain on 5 out of the 10 days we were in there,” says Andrews. Hunter went in with his camp and gear crammed into a Badlands 2200 pack and stayed with the elk day after day. Hunter and his crew called in a number of bulls before everything finally came together for a shot. On  the 18th, Hunter put it all together on his bull. It was a 42-yard uphill poke…and Hunter put an arrow through the bull’s heart. It was a great shot and a great end to a tough week-and-a-half in the backcountry of Montana. Congrats to Hunter on stickin’ with it to get the job done on his 2010 bull.

Girls Got Game

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

Our friends Amy Sawyer and Kim McCormick continue to get the job done on some fine animals with their bows across the northwest. Amy pulled a spot-n-stalk on a nice Idaho bear this past weekend while looking for elk in the backcountry. She slipped up to 33-yards of the chocolate colored bear before making the shot with her Mathews Hyperlite bow.
Kim has been putting down some nice animals the last couple years with her Diamond Edge bow and the 2010 season appears to be no different. She made short work of the “Mud Buck” when the Montana antelope season cranked up. Congrats to you ladies! Keep it up!

Video Your Own Hunts

Friday, September 10th, 2010

With the popularity of outdoor programming continuing to rise, the number of hunters hitting the woods each season packin’ camera equipment to capture their hunt on video continues to grow as well. The “sport of filming hunts” has spread like wildfire.
I’ll admit, it is somewhat addicting to capture these hunts on camera. Anyone who loves to swap hunting stories will cherish the opportunity to relive those exciting moments at full draw through video.
Many companies in the industry have answered the demand of hunters looking for equipment for their own do-it-yourself video experience. What started out as an
offering of cheap, lightweight camera arms for small handy-cams, has blossomed into a number of companies now offering tough, sturdy, and very professional camera arms for any style and weight of cameras.
I personally don’t quit hunting just because I don’t have a cameraman to tag along with me. I often count on a camera arm to keep me in the hunt. I’ve used a number of different arms over the years. Some junk…some that I’ve grown to love. I’ve used a lightweight arm from Primos http://primos.com  for my smallest handy-cam style camera over the years. It is very light, fairly inexpensive, and does a fine job when used with a small camera.
Two of the hottest new offerings in camera arms comes this year from the guys at Muddy Outdoors. The crew at Muddy are always working towards designing and redesigning products to make your next hunting adventure a huge success. They’ve done just that with their new Hunter and Boss Hawg camera arms.
The Hunter arm is a durable and lightweight system that allows you to produce a high-quality production on your next hunt. The Hunter arm provides a rock solid mount at an affordable price for serious videographers. Features for the Hunter arm include: Easy level bubble for quick, accurate setup, 2-way arm system for quick and easy removal and transport, silent operation with quiet locking levers for quick, on-the-fly adjustments, 2″ ratchet strap and wide base for a solid and secure mount to any tree.
The Boss Hawg has all the same great features of the Hunter arm in an even beefier package for the heavier camera setups.
“I have been using the Muddy Outfitter Camera Arm for cameras such as the Canon GL2,” says Chad Lathrop of Muddy Outdoors. “It is a perfect sized arm for the GL2 or any camera that is going to weigh less than 10 pounds, and it includes the fluid head as well. For the Canon XHA1 and the Sony AX 2000 or similar sized cameras, I have been using the Hunter Camera Arm. This arm is perfect for those sized cameras and can support up to 15 lbs. The Boss Hawg is big enough for anything that you are going to want to put on it. It is for your larger XD Cams.”
Take advantage of the many options now available that allow you to capture your next hunting adventure on tape. Check out http://gomuddy.com for more info on their line of camera arms, as well as treestands, climbing sticks, safety harnesses and more.

The Goats Continue to Drop

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Hunter Andrews and Roger Stacy headed over to Eastern Montana for the opening weekend of deer and elk season this past weekend. They were in search of trophy mule deer, but the hunt quickly switched gears and became an antelope hunt when the guys continued to run into some really nice antelope bucks. Hunter killed a great buck in the first few days of the MT antelope season, so Roger quickly stepped up to the plate and got the job done on a nice buck. The guys passed on a number of nice whitetail bucks as they waited on a chance at a muley. That chance never came…which only means the guys have more opportunities and tags to punch in the days ahead. Cory Benge also scored on a stud of an antelope buck this week. Check out his photo in the RBTV team gallery.
